Publisher Summary The parameter identification is important in research areas including the parameterization of joints and boundary conditions, model structure determination, and model-based damage detection. There are several techniques to identify parameters of a finite element model, such as the density and the modulus of elasticity of a cantilever beam, by using an image processing technique. Using the technique, a small crack in the uniform beam is detected. Also, the technique presented in this chapter indicates that deflection of the beam is well measured by processing the captured image data and that the parameters of the beam are identified by the measured deflection with high accuracy. This chapter detects the joint failure in the structure by processing the captured joint image data. The joint failure is precisely identified as the reduction of the rotational stiffness of the joint.
