A simplified log-MAP turbo decoder by fitting method

This paper presents a simplified Log-MAP turbo decoder. The proposed SISO algorithm uses fitting method to calculate the correction function. BER performances of the simplified turbo decoder are simulated over AWGN and flat slow fading channel. Simulations based on 3GPP2 turbo encoder demonstrate that this simplified algorithm achieves a better compromise between the complexity and the performance. The coding gain of the simplified algorithm is 0.3-0.5dB higher than that of Max-Log-MAP turbo decoder, while the complexity is lower than that of Log-MAP algorithm
