The kinetics and mechanism of the reaction of ethylene sulfide with diamagnetic silylene (≡Si:) and paramagnetic (≡Si . , ≡SiO . , and ≡SiCH 2 CH 2 . ) centers on a chemically activated aerosil surface have been investigated by EPR and luminescent spectroscopy. Paramagnetic reaction products [grafted alkyl and alkylperthiyl (RSS . ) radicals] have been identified and a mechanism has been proposed for their formation.
