The television environment as such is undergoing a change – mobility, highdefinition (HD), IP-TV, consumer experience, social TV, new advertising models, and the creation of a new entertainment environment—are just a few keywords for characterizing this change. In this special issue we present a selection of papers from the EuroITV 2008 Conference. This series of conferences aims at bringing together applied and scientific researchers from various backgrounds, disciplines, and businesses. The 6th EuroITV Conference was organized by the ICT&S Center of the University of Salzburg, Austria in July 2008. With over 210 participants, it was the largest conference held so far; and only the very best of the 156 submissions were selected for this special issue. Twelve contributions that faced the challenges mentioned above were selected for publication. Our main goal was to focus on an industrial as well as a research viewpoint. Hence the various contributions were organized into the
