Intrusion Detection System in Wireless Sensor Networks - A Comprehensive Survey

WSN is a large-scale ad hoc network with the property of adequate availability, including the all scopes of communication applications, like health care, home automation, remote observations, obstacles detection, etc. WSN consists of huge amount of tiny actuators, located on different places which have low cost and easy installation with constraints of limited energy resources, computational capacity and memory size. WSN is exposed to many security threats due to its limitations, broadcast nature and unattended environment. Many publications have proposed different IDS designs to efficiently defend WSNs against security threats. To overcome this issue, the proposed paper studies different proposed IDS frameworks and compares them to assess the efficiency from their strengths and weaknesses. In the paper comprehensive literature review of intrusion detection system are presented with its security requirements, security attacks, security threats with its prevention methods are discussed, as far as challenges of intrusion detection system are also focused and after analysis and discussion issues are mentioned in the paper which can be considered for future work.
