Entropy Estimates for Dynamical Systems

We apply a metho d proposed recen tl y for estimating en­ t ropie s of sy mbol seque nces to two ensembles of binary seq uences ob­ taine d from dynamical sys tems. T he first is th e ensemble of (0,1)­ sequences in a generating pa rt it ion of t he Henon map ; th e seco nd is th e ensemb le of spatial st rings in cellu lar automaton 22 in t he sta­ t istica lly stationary state. In both cases , t he ent ro py est ima t es ag ree with prev ious estimates. In the latter case , we co nfirm a previous claim th at th e ent ro py of s patial strings in ru le 22 converges to zero, alt ho ug h extremely slowly.
