Advanced micromechanical analysis of highly loaded hybrid composite structures

Multi-scale computed tomography has been used to obtain a detailed 3D understanding of meso- and micro-structural characteristics in a hybrid composite/metallic component, along with a micro-mechanical understanding of the associated failure processes. A 3D FE approach has been adopted to model the structure, which has been informed by results achieved from the computed tomography.
