MIMO dongle antenna design for next generation mobile communication system

This paper proposes a MIMO USB dongle antenna array design that can operate in C-band (3.4–3.6 GHz) that may be applied in future fifth generation (5G) operation. The total dimension of this proposed antenna is 36.5 mm n× 25 mm × 1.6 mm, and it is composed of a 10 mm × 25 mm two antenna array and a ground of 26.5 mm × 10 mm. The structure of the two antenna array is a simple bending monopole structure. To achieve desirable frequency and isolation (<-15 dB) at the band of interest, two L-shaped slits are loaded into the ground plane, and the technique of applying a dual neutral-line between the two antenna elements is also applied. Antenna gain of >1.63 dBi and antenna efficiency of >50% are achieved in this design.
