INNOVATIVE MEASURES FOR GREEN SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT IN SOUTH-EAST EUROPE

Due to increased environmental pressures on companies the concept of Environmental (Green) Supply Chain Management (GSCM) gains growing importance also in the countries of South-East Europe (SEE). This paper examines on a macroand micro-level the situation in South-East Europe by the examples of Greece and Romania for implementation of environmental thinking in reference to GSCM. Drivers, developments, obstacles and needs for the implementation of innovative GSCM methods in an ‘EU newcomer’ and an ‘EU veteran’ of the region are looked at. In Romania as well as in Greece meeting EU environmental requirements is an important driver for adopting new and more efficient production processes but on firm level a number of considerable impediments exist. This work extends the research of GSCM into the area of SEE.
