MEASURING EXTERNAL SAFETY AT SCHIPHOL

This paper discusses aviation safety, public perception of aviation safety, and risk assessment regarding aviation safety at Schiphol Airport, in the Netherlands. External risk, the likelihood of people on the ground dying due to an airplane crashing into them, is specifically addressed. A risk contour model is evaluated, and a more comprehensive measurement of safety is suggested.
