Infarction of A Fibroadenoma of Breast Following Fine Needle Aspiration

Fine needle aspiration (FNA) has now a well established role in diagnosis of breast lesions. The procedure is generally well tolerated and complications are rare. We report a case of infarction occurring in a fibroadenoma following FNA in a 40-year-old woman. This is a rare condition, having a reported incidence of five per 1000 fibroadenomas‘. Some but by no means all’,’ of the cases reported have been associated with pregnancy or lactation. Different patterns of infarction have been described4, varying from focal lesions to almost complete haemorrhagic necrosis.
