Experimental verification of an evolutionary HFC network architecture for adding narrowcast services

An evolutionary hybrid-fiber-coal (HFC) network architecture, which does not require DWDM in the beginning stages of adding narrowcast services to broadcast services, is proposed and experimentally verified. It was demonstrated that a directly modulated laser can be used to transport 50 channels of narrowcast signals between 450 and 750 MHz over a transmission distance of 102.5 km to more than 16 optical nodes.
