IT governance - a global approach at company level

This paper presents a managerial approach of the automation process of information systems, focusing on identification of the key factors which determine the success of e-government or other complex Information Technology (IT) implementations and the proper ways for directing the IT activities in all the stages of the information system's life cycle. It proposes a change of the management's view about the relation between the organisation's strategy and the IT main objectives and, also, a theoretical support for making the decision concerning the right time to start and the most appropriate technical level of the information system update.
