Virtual Instrument Based Testing and Analysis System for Dynamic Characteristics of NC Machine Tools

A virtual instrument based system is investigated for the testing and analysis of the dynamic characteristics of the machioe tool-cutter-workpiece machining system under LabVIEW environment. The fundamental functional modules, including sampling, FFT, FRF, power spectrum and modal analysis etc., are developed by using the LabVIEW functions. The dynamic parameters in frequency domain of a machining system such as natural frequency, damping ratio, stiffness coefficient etc. can be identified in the system combined with!the hammer test. The system can be used in shop-floor test conveniently. Compared with conventional measurement instrument, the VI based testing and analysis system demonstrates the higher convenience, efficiency and accuracy while the cost decreases.
