Abstract There has been a renewed interest in the near-infrared spectroscopic region. The use of multivariate mathematical techniques have allowed the spectroscopist to overcome the disadvantages inherent in the near-infrared, which include low absorptivities and overlapping of bands. The present activity and future trends of near-infrared analysis are discussed.
