Three chalcogeno chloro Re4 cluster compounds Re4(μ3-Q)4(TeCl2)4Cl8 (Q = S, Se, Te) (1, 2, 3) have been synthesized by the reaction of ReCl5 and elemental Te with elemental S or Se at 400 °C (1, 2) or by the reaction of ReCl5 with elemental Te at 350 °C (3). All three compounds have been characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction methods. Each of these compounds contains a Re4Q4 cubane-like core with two terminal chloro ligands and one neutral terminal TeCl2 ligand on each Re center.
