Particular aspects concerning the design of a brushless DC electric motor driving a mini-scooter

Nowadays there is a continuous demand for motors with high efficiency, good dynamic performances under transient regimes and reduced overall dimensions. An optimized in-wheel brushless DC motor design technique is proposed and the design algorithm is developed with two distinct software packages: Mathcad and Matlab. New generation materials were considered for the design process, such that the motor can become an alternative for the competitive producers. An example is provided for a 450 W motor used in driving a mini-scooter. The motor has a very good efficiency, preserving it's reduced dimensions at a competitive cost.
