Publish, not Perish: Learning, Research and Writing for Librarians

Whether public services librarians consider scholarly publishing to be an occupational obligation, an exciting worthwhile academic pursuit, or even a combination of the two, the process need not be so arduous or intimidating. The sources reviewed for this column are designed to be repositories of calls for writing and presentation, and seek to make the scholarly learning and publication processes more accessible and manageable. These resources are presented in a variety of forms, including blogs, listservs, and a learning network and community, and provide insight and inspiration to what is often perceived to be a daunting task. The Public Services Quarterly Internet Column is designed to highlight resources librarians can use to increase their awareness, augment their skills, and provide better services to their patrons. While strengths and weaknesses of each site are included in these reviews, the sites chosen are recommended or highly recommended for use by academic librarians. All sites are listed and easily accessible from http://psqInternet.googlepages.com/home. All questions and comments about the Public Services Quarterly Internet Column can be directed to Nicole A.
