Office automation: end user impact

Office automation may be the ultimate example of end-user computing in action. It represents the usage of information systems by the principal users of the system's outputs or by their immediate support staffs. The purpose of this paper is to present a model of office automation with a focus on its impact on the end-user. Consideration is given to both macro and micro organizational perspectives. Results of a validation process of the model with focus group of experienced end-users representing twelve large organizations are presented and discussed. Organizational and societal implications are drawn.
