EddyCurrent Testing ofConductive Materials

Theobjective ofourworkistodesign andimplement an automatic recognition systemofmechanical wearoutina conductive nonmagnetic material. Especially intheflight industry, this isaveryimportant issue asrecognizing wearoutinamaterial canavoid materialfailures. Nowadays this exploration needs highly skilled operators thatusinghand-operated eddycurrent testing (ECT)areabletorecognize theflaws typeandshape. Withthe introduction ofamicroprocessor based system theperformance is enhanced byincreasing thetest speed while avoiding errors dueto humanfailure like inexperience andinconsistency. Inthepresent paper acomputer based eddycurrent testing system is proposed. A description oftheimplemented prototype including somedetails onthedigital processing techniques usedandthe measurements obtained fordifferent artificial defects inan aluminum plate arepresented.
