Cartography and the Internet

AbstractIn the last few years the Internet has become almost a household name. Much of the current interest in the World Wide Web (WWW) has arisen through very effective advertising promotions by, for example, Compuserve and AOL (America On Line). The WWW is a vast, easily accessible global data and information resource, which includes a considerable amount of geographical information. With developments in HTML (Hypertext Markup Language), CGI (Common Gateway Interface) scripts, Javascript and Java the Internet offers even greater potential for education and training, interactive information retrieval, and even the display of animated files. This paper briefly explores the Internet in the context of maps and Cartography.
