Lifetime analysis in heterogeneous wireless sensor networks

The energy consumption issue of a kind heterogeneous wireless sensor networks was studied. Two types of sensor with different battery power are assumed to be uniformly deployed in a sensing field, one with a singlelayer of identical sensors and other with an additional overlay of fewer but more powerful sensors, which forms a eterogeneous wireless sensor network and works in clustering approach. Two type sensor energy consumptions were formulated and their lifetime with varying parameters related to the sensing field was studied.According to the theoretical analysis and experiment results, the optical number of clusters based on our proposed sensor model was obtained and the energy allocation between different layers was given. In addition,a relationship between the network lifetimes and sensor energy was found.
