FAILURE OF FIRST STAGE GAS TURBINE BLADES

Abstract Gas turbine blades must exhibit a high level of resistance to the oxidizing and corrosive environment generated by the combustion gases and be resistant to any associated mechanical failure mechanisms such as erosion. In this paper different types of hot corrosion with their microscopic characteristics are reviewed, and a case study on the first stage blades of a GE-F5 gas turbine presented.
