Most of the paper discusses one particular application and the work presented is descriptive of approaches to that application. In situations that arise in artificial intelligence, initial null and alternative hypotheses must be modified as information is obtained. One modification concerns the establishment of other hypotheses to which the observed last datum also contributes and a decision regarding as to which pair of null and alternative hypotheses to emphasize in further testing.
