ADVANCED TRAVELLER INFORMATION - THE PROMISE OF THINGS TO COME

This paper describes two projects for providing real time traveller information. These are ATT-ALERT and PROMISE, both of which are part of the DRIVE 2 programme. The scope of these two projects are described, and the way in which they will advance the state of the art in European traveller information is presented. Special attention is given to the ALERT protocol. The ATT-ALERT system aims to extend the application of the ALERT protocol to other communication mediums such as paging, digital cellular radio, and digital audio broadcasting. The second project PROMISE implements the ATT-ALERT protocol suite. It concentrates on multi-modal information systems. These cover traffic conditions, public transport, parking and tourist information. Portable terminals are being developed. For the covering abstract see IRRD 867248.
