More and Faster Energy Transfer Capability for Battery Chargers of Electric Vehicles

Output active and reactive powers of battery chargers of electric vehicles are controlled for participation in vehicle-to-grid technology. In this paper, a typical control system, suitable for vehicle-to-grid technology, is equipped with third harmonic injection technique. This paper aims to evaluate how much third harmonic injection changes level of the output active and reactive powers as well as the dynamic response. Results consider two scenarios for pulse-width modulation, in the presence and in the absence of third harmonic injection, and reveal that it is a highly effective method to enhance the level of the output reactive power and the speed of change of the output active power.
