On the dynamical properties of helical springs of finite length with small pitch

Abstract The longitudinal and the torsional vibrations of helical springs of finite length with small pitch are analyzed on the basis of Love's formulation for a naturally curved thin rod of small deformation. The driving-point impedance at one end of the springs is discussed while the other end is free or supported. The image impedance and the propagation constant are also taken into account to find the transmission characteristics by analogy with the electrical four terminal network.
