Application of a model reference fuzzy adaptive control to the spot welding system

Abstract: Based on the fuzz), logic control and adaptive control theory, this paper develops a fuzzy adaptive controller (FAC) with adaptive algorithm. Here the algorithms can modify membership functions of fuzzy controller in real time according to the distinct operating stages and working environment. From this points of view, a scheme of Model Reference Fuzzy Adaptive Control (MRFAC) system is designed to realize an adaptive control scheme. The proposed scheme is applied to a resistance spot welding system for producing a sound nugget and reducing loss energy. The simulation results show that it becomes possible to obtain the better performance in both transient and steady states. By incorporating fuzz), system Nvith the adaptive control, it will be realized to control welding current and output energy in real time. And the proposed scheme will improve transient response and robustness of the controlled system to parameter, welding stages changes and disturbance.
