Patch antennas feed modeling for method of moments

Inaccurate feed modeling in the antenna design and analysis is one of the main sources errors in the Method of Moments (MoM) analysis. In this paper we present a new feed modeling for MoM with the well-known RWG basis functions [3]. The proposed model is a generalization of the well-known delta-gap voltage source adapted to patch antennas [1,2]. The RWG basis functions used in this paper — and widely used in method of moments analysis — are now recognized as one of the first vector (“edge”) elements to be used in computational electromagnetic. The feed modeling presented here can be easily generalized to other type of basis functions. The validity of the this model is demonstrated by means of two examples and the results are compared with ones obtained from recent studies [6] which use Ansoft Ensemble to obtain the antenna parameters. Good agreement between the results of two methods is achieved. MATLAB 6.5 is used for simulations.
