MAGNETO-MECHANICAL STRONG COUPLED MODEL FOR A GIANT MAGNETOSTRICTIVE ACTUATOR

The rare-earth iron giant magnetostrictive materials present more and more applications as a new type functional materials. In order to design magnetostrictive actuators, modelling of the input current dependence of output displacement for the actuator is necessary. Magneto-mechanical strong coupled model for a giant magnetostrictive actuator was founded based on the energy functional. The input current dependence of output displacement for the actuator was calculated by means of the finite element method. Comparison between the calculating result and experimental result for the actuator was carried out and it was found that they were in agreement well. This indicates that the model can express the relation between the input current and the output displacement. Therefore it is important to design a giant magnetostrictive actuator.
