The Des Momes population Study of Glaucoma

T. .his study was designed to investigate the correlation between test values pertaining to intraocular pressure level, its behavior and dynamics on the one hand and the presence or the future development of a defect of a nerve fiber bundle of the central visual field on the other. This presentation will outline the design and procedure of this study and present some of the results obtained during the first 4 years which indicate a poor correlation of the simultaneous presence of the two groups of parameters. They also point out relationships between the various tonometer tests that can account for significant predictive errors and emphasize the need for long-term follow-up studies aimed at establishing empirically an operational definition of open angle glaucoma.
