The embodiments of the invention provide a configuration information generation method and a network control unit. The method comprises: a network control unit receiving a virtual machine correlation message, the virtual machine correlation message comprising the identification of a first virtual machine whose state is changed and the identification of a first vertical built-in network element detecting the state change of the first virtual machine; and the network control unit determining first information according to the identification of the first virtual machine, the first information comprising at least one from the following pieces of information including a first forwarding entry, a first virtual machine position information mapping entry and a first network strategy. According to the embodiments of the invention, the first information is determined according to the identification of the first virtual machine whose state is changed, included by the virtual machine correlation message through the network control unit, and manual determination is unnecessary, such that the network configuration efficiency and the network performance can be improved.
