By use of EMTP an electromagnetic model for the interphase power co ntroller(IPC)is built. The overvoltage on the IPC at connection and disconnect ion during grounding faults are calculated in detail. The results show that desp ite good current-limiting characteristic, the surge overvoltages on the tuned I PC during connection and disconnection are too high to be used in practice. Com paratively, the overvoltages on the untuned IPC are much lower, and short-circu it current can be limited evidently. The latter is preferable in practice.
