Managing the Data Mining Project

Pulling data together into an analysis environment—called a mining mart—is an essential precondition for providing data in the right form and right measurements in order to produce a timely and useful analysis. There can be a lot of complexity in preparing data for analysis. Most scientific, statistical, and pattern-matching algorithms that have been developed for data mining evolved from precursors to the scientific or statistical analysis of scientific data, and even to this day, the most common mining mart data representation is a single table view to the data. Target marketing is one of the most prevalent application areas for data mining. Target marketing includes direct mail offers to selected customers, locations, or events. Data mining and the associated search for promising patterns is the only way to sort through the various fields of information that could combine to describe the propensity of a prospect to respond to a given offer.
