Using information obtained from birth and baptismal registers in the parish of Hawkshead England between 1660 and 1710 the author examines the relationship between parish size and under-registration of vital events. Estimates of the infant mortality rate are calculated for the region and the Hawkshead registers are compared with those of two neighboring parishes to determine their accuracy (ANNOTATION)
