Prediction of stress intensity factors in semi-elliptical weld toe cracks in offshore tubular joints

When stressed or deformed most solids limit low-level seismic signals known as acoustic emission/microseismic (AE/MS) activity. In recent years AE/MS techniques have been utilized for stability monitoring of underground structures such as mines, tunnels, natural gas and petroleum storage caverns, radioactive waste repositories, and geothermal reservoirs, as well as surface structures such as foundations, rock and soil slopes, bridge piers and abutments, and dams. The book includes details on such AE/MS related topics such as basic material behavior, stress wave propagation, transducer design and installation, electronic instrumentation, data acquisition and analysis, and signal processing. Consideration is also given to the practical applications of AE/MS techniques to both field and laboratory problems in a wide range of geotechnical areas including those associated with geology, geophysics, and mining, petroleum, and civil engineering.
