Electron Spin Resonance and Electron Nuclear Double Resonance Studies of DL‐Serine. II. Identification of Free Radicals Produced in the Range 153–340°K

Single crystals of x‐irradiated DL‐serine, deuterated DL‐serine, and α‐D‐1‐DL‐serine have been examined in the temperature range 77–340°K using ESR and ENDOR techniques. Six of the radical species observed are identified and the mechanisms by which these species are formed are discussed. The initial species produced at 77°K are the anion and cation radicals which decay through inter‐ and intramolecular processes and finally form two stable radicals at room temperature.
