Reservoir Operations by Fuzzy Goal Programming

The reservoir operations problem is composed of obtaining optimal releases, and storages of a reservoir and downstream reach routed flows based on forecasted inflows and precipitation. The formulation in general involves two difficulties: (i) estimation of objective function coefficients, and (ii) use of point estimates of targeted storages and flows. Goal programming formulation overcomes the first difficulty by minimizing the deviations from targets. Fuzzy goal program allows for a range for a target instead of a point estimate. The solution is compared with that of a preemptive goal program. These schemes are applied to the Green River basin, Kentucky data reported previously in literature.
