Recurrence after inguinal hernioplasty. A retrospective analysis of 122 cases.

The records of 122 patients treated for inguinal hernia in 1974 or 1975 were retrospectively analyzed. In 1981 all surviving and traceable patients were examined for recurrence of hernia. The overall recurrence rate was 9.6%. For indirect hernia the rate was 7.4% and for direct hernia 9.7%. Altogether 125 operations were performed, ten of them as emergencies for irreducible hernia. One patient died in association with surgery.
