1 kW S-band Solid State Power Amplifier Module

This paper describes the design and fabrication of a 1 kW solid state power amplifier module which operating over s-band at a duty of 10 percent and with a pulse width of 200 μs,bandwidth of 400 MHz for radar application. The module consists of 4-stage cascaded power amplifier and the input signal of 5 mW can be amplified to over the peak of 1 kW. By optimizing matching circuits by using 3-stage Wilkinson divider/combiner the gain flatness and the thermal reliability is improved. Tests show the results of output of more than 1.2 kW corresponding to PAE of higher than 30% and gain flatness of 1.2 dB over the band.
