Project contract strategy for 1992 and beyond

Abstract Harmonization throughout the EEC will make big demands on the construction industry as specifications, contract awards procedures, and standards of conditions of contract come under scrutiny. This paper focuses on the need for project managers to review their strategies and test them against possible commercial developments over the expected project lifetime. It is suggested that the new-style ICE contract may offer the answer by providing flexibility, clarity, simplicity and an emphasis on good project management. A thorough assessment of the tasks involved in fulfilling a major project is presented, along with factors in selecting a particular contract strategy. Enthusiastic acceptance at home may be needed as a prerequisite for selling it to Europe.
