Stability of Predation Ecosystem Models

This paper concerns qualitative conditions for stability in a model predation ecosystem. The basic idea is to present conditions on a generalized Volterra model so that there is for the model an equilibrium trajector. The equilibrium trajectory is characterized by the fact that other trajectories tend to approach asymptotically the equilibrium trajectory with time. This is a formalization of stable ecosystem development. Perhaps the most interesting of the conditions is that net efficiencies of biomass conversion corresponding to distinct pathways in a food web from one producer to one top consumer must be equal.
