A High Performance Point-to-Point Rural Wi-Fi and Wi-Max Access Networks in Developing Regions

The aim of this paper is to address one aspect of this challenge – how do we build affordable communication networks in developing regions by adapting technologies originally designed for the industrialized world to be appropriate and sustainable in the developing world environments It is in this context that the role of information and communication technologies (or ICTs) in development has been widely recognized. The Millennium Development Goals defined by many countries to spur development in the world poorest countries by improving social and economic conditions explicitly include spread of ICTs as an important aim: “make available the benefits of new technologies — especially information and communications technologies (ICT)”.
