WDM system impairments due to highly-correlated PMD spectra of buried optical cables

Repeated polarisation mode dispersion measurements on a buried cable show a strong correlation between differential group delay spectra measured at 24 h intervals. Based on experimental data, the mean outage rate and time are calculated.
