Storing medium for storing extra information for function of browsable still picture and slide show and writing/reading apparatus and method thereof

PURPOSE: A storing medium for storing extra information for the function of a browsable still picture and a slide show and writing/reading apparatus and method thereof are provided to realize the playback of a still picture having time relation with audio data and the playback of a still picture without regard to the time relation with audio data by dividedly storing audio data and video data. CONSTITUTION: In a randomly accessible recording medium, audio data in the continuous playback unit and extra information for still pictures related with the audio data are stored separately. In the audio data, command data as real-time regenerative data are stored after being multiplexed. Audio data and video data about the still pictures are composed in separate files. In the right before an audio data file, a video data file for the still pictures in a specific relation with the audio data is stored. The command data are composed in a pack unit. The command data includes playback time information, the number of a still picture to be regenerated, and playback-related command and data. While audio signals are regenerated, video data in relation with the still picture of the number assigned in the command data are read out from a buffer memory corresponding to the time information in the command data.
