A SYSTEMATIC STUDY ON AUTOMATIC BERTHING CONTROL, 1ST REPORT

An architecture is proposed for an expert system for automatic berthing control. It is designed to consist of a knowledge base and four subsystems, namely, subsystems for planning, plan executing, knowledge management and berthing control. The knowledge base shared by all subsystems contains production rules, most of which are based on the experience of seasoned shipmasters and pilots and on circumstance-dependent parameters.
