Furniture Design By Means Of Digital Anthropometry

The paper explores ergonomics contribution to furniture design in the computer and using computer programs. Impacts of furniture design on correct bodily posture of the worker at work and work break are analyzed whereby his energy consumption and fatigue are minimized. For this purpose a computer program has been created that determines optimal ergonomic parameters in furniture design by using input data of various kinds of bodily posture, sex and operator height. By means of digital 3D anthropometric, movement analysis, dimensions of the operation space of the body, e.g. arm's reach, postures of legs, head, back etc. were determined. Furniture dimensions and space which should be optimally utilized were adjusted according to anthropometric body sizes.
