Conclusion: Joint estimation of shape and gloss? Yes and no: depth cues that stretch or squash perceived shape have little e ect on perceived gloss. However, depth cues (from vision or touch) that change the perceived shape of a multi-stable stimulus have a dramatic e ect on perceived gloss in approximately half of the population.
