THE INFLUENCE OF COULOMB CORRELATION ON VARIOUS METALLIC PROPERTIES

The Fermi liquid theory of Landau, extended by Silin to include the Coulomb inter action, is applied to investigate the effect of the Coulomb interaction on various proper ties of an electron gas. By assuming a simple form for the .. correlation function ", which characterizes the correlation effect in this formalism, the corrections for specific heat (effective mass), spin paramagnetic "usceptibility, Korringa relation and the dispersion of plasma oscillation are calculated. It is shown that the effect of the Coulomb interaction on specific heat is quite small, while that on spin paramagnetism is appreciable. The ef fective mass of electrons on the Fermi surface is shown to be smaller than the bare mass, if the small momentum tran"ier processes contribute dominantly to the correlation function.
