Hypertension control indicators among rural population in Egypt.

This study was designed to be a house to house survey to fulfill an interview questionnaire and measure blood pressure for 1927 rural inhabitant at "Bany Magdoul" village located at Imbaba district of Giza governorate. The response rate was 96.4%. The prevalence of hypertension among study sample was 27.9%; only 15.5% were aware of being hypertensives. Among the hypertensive patients only 25.9% were receiving regular treatment. Also, the proportion of controlled hypertension among known hypertensives was 24.2%. It was concluded that hypertension is an emerging problem in rural areas and the control indicators are low in comparison to other surveys.
